In October 2021, the UK government is planning to cut Universal Credit and Working Tax Credit by £20 / week.
This is the biggest overnight cut to social security since the Second World War, and will be a devastating blow to thousands of households who are already struggling to make ends meet.
Research by the Trussell Trust shows that 1.2 million people across the UK fear that they will be forced to skip meals or be unable to heat their homes as winter approaches and the cuts hit home. Many more will be forced to turn to foodbanks for help.
This simply isn’t right.
Exeter Foodbank is joining with the Trussell Trust, organisations across the country and politicians of all political parties to call on the UK government to #KeepTheLifeline and not cut families adrift when they are most in need of support.
