What’s in a food parcel?

Our foodbank provides three days of nutritionally balanced, non-perishable food.

The Trussell Trust has worked with nutritionists to ensure food parcels contains sufficient nutrition for at least three days worth of healthy, balanced meals for individuals and families.

A typical food parcel includes:

  • Breakfast cereals
  • UHT milk
  • Long-life fruit juice
  • Tinned / mashed potato
  • Soup
  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Pasta sauce
  • Tinned beans
  • Tinned meat / vegetarian alternative
  • Tinned fish
  • Tinned vegetables
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tea or coffee
  • Sugar
  • Biscuits
  • Snacks
  • Toilet rolls

Additional items

We often have fresh fruit, vegetables and bread (supplied by Exeter Food Action) at our main distribution site.  Toiletries, feminine hygiene products, nappies, baby food and pet food are also provided (subject to availability).

If you have children aged 0-4 or are pregnant, you may also be eligible for NHS Healthy Start vouchers. With Healthy Start, you get free vouchers every week to spend on milk, fruit, vegetables, and infant formula milk. You can also get free vitamins.  Please see here for details.

Dietary requirements

Our foodbank can usually adapt your food parcel to meet your dietary needs, for example, gluten free, halal or vegetarian. When you arrive at the foodbank centre, a volunteer will chat to you about an special dietary requirements you may have.
